The National Portrait On Display

A few friends had told me they saw a new exhibit on display at the Simon’s store at Park Royal Mall in West Vancouver. They were pretty sure it was 3D printing related but weren’t sure (come on friends! Take a photo!). It turns out, it is in fact 1/4 of the National Portrait that I worked on with Douglas Coupland.

Coincidently, I was heading to West Vancouver for Douglas’ birthday gathering so we stopped in to Simon’s to take a look. Sure enough, it was indeed a portion of the full sized project. Later that evening, Douglas did confirm the project is on display and that other Simon’s locations across the country would also be exhibiting the remaining 3/4 of the project – a quarter of it at 3 other stores. I’ll update when the locations are confirmed but it sounds like Yorkdale in Toronto for sure.

Anyways, it’s pretty cool to see the piece again after all this time and I’m glad it’s no longer sitting in storage, waiting to be shared.

I’m not sure if Douglas realized he had included me in this display either but it was neat to see he had and included a few other dear friends in the exhibit.

You can read about the background on the project here.
