3D Canada – The National Portrait
Flights and hotel have been booked. 3D Canada is going to be unveiled in Ottawa this summer at the Ottawa Art Gallery as The National Portrait.
After three years of work, visiting nine different cities across Canada to 3D scan and print over 1700 people, we’re finally ready to show the world what we’ve been working on.
Working with Douglas Coupland, SIMONS and our 3DCanada team (Andy, Angela and Brittany) has been one of the most rewarding and creative experiences of my life.
Some stats on the project I provided from my detailed print logs:
- 1,700 total number of heads scanned
- 1,000 total number of heads in the piece
- 70 kilometres of biodegradable plastic filament (PLA) used
- 11 months to print all the pieces of the sculpture
- 15 Tinkerine DittoPro 3D printers used
Since it’s been a while, take a look at my travelogue of the cities tour about what we were actually doing and watch the video Simons produced about the project:
We’ll lift the cover off the piece on June 29th in Ottawa and I’ll be there. I can’t wait to show you.
