Joshua Tree National Park
During my recent trip to Palm Springs for the YxYY conference (to be discussed in another post very soon), I had the opportunity to go on a road trip with three carloads of people I had just met. The Joshua Tree National Park is about an hour outside of Palm Springs and everyone was gathering early for YxYY so a quick trip seemed in order.
I had been through this area about 20 years ago and it was a whirlwind trip so didn’t get to see much.
On our way, we drove through what has to be one of the largest windmill farms:
We stopped for lunch at Pappy & Harriet’s Pioneertown Palace, which had been built as a ‘living set’ for many western movies shot in the 40’s and 50’s with the interiors being a place tourists could shop.
Nate had his quadcopter with him and got this awesome shot from high above the backlot of all of us commemorating our YxYY adventure (I’m on the top right arm of the Y):
It was a pretty amazing place. I can see me wanting to go back and spent more than a couple of hours exploring. We stumbled upon Split Rock and spent quite a while climbing over the rock formations that didn’t seem real…like they were foam props from Pioneertown or something.
It was a very cool way to kick off an amazing weekend getaway in California.
