Tech Tuesday: Graphene Super Capacitors and Use the Force with Myo
This week on News 1130 radio in Vancouver, I discussed these items:
- Graphene super capacitors: Researchers at UCLA, while working on an unrelated project with Graphene, they discovered that their process essentially made a super capacitor out of carbon. This is like a battery except that it charges and discharges a hundred to a thousand times faster than a traditional battery and takes up much less space. It is made from organic materials unlike batteries which are made from metals and toxic chemicals. This will lead to smartphones you charge up for 30 seconds instead of 3-4 hours and they will last the whole day. They also think that this technology will revolutionize electric vehicles in that the same amount of time you spend now at a gas pump, you could charge up your car for the day.
- Use the force with Myo: With the wave of your hand, MYO will transform how you interact with your digital world. The MYO armband lets you use the electrical activity in your muscles to wirelessly control your computer, phone, and other favorite digital technologies. MYO is able to measure electrical activity in your muscles instantly. The result is a seamless way to interact with computers, and a truly magical sense of control. Coming later this year for about $150. (thanks Meena!)
