Tech Tuesday: 3D Printed Buildings & Using Your Face as a Remote
This week on News 1130 radio in Vancouver, I discussed these items:
- 3D printed building: Coming in 2014, 3d printing goes to a whole new level as Dutch architect Janjaap Ruijssenaars plans to make the worlds first 3d printed home using the Italian designed DShape printer. This is the same printer that made the Rygo sculpture which is the largest 3d printed object in North America. Using thin layers of sand and an inorganic binder, the building will be printed in 6×9 foot pieces and assembled onsite in Ireland. Plans are to open the building to the public.
- Using your face as a remote: Software, currently in beta from Cube26, that works on most platforms will allow your computer to watch you and trigger different events from your gestures requiring no additional hardware than a webcam. If you leave the room, it will pause whatever media is currently being played on the computer. Since it’s always watching, you can also use various gestures to pause or mute audio for example, by holding your finger to your mouth and making a shhh gesture.
