3D Printing a Hyperboloid
Trying out my new time-lapse rig, using a Creative Live! Socialize HD Webcam here is a hyperboloid pencil holder I found on the Thingiverse:
Just over 2.5 hours to print and surprisingly sturdy!

A few weeks ago, while I was setting up my stuff at the Vancouver Mini Maker Faire, Matthew approached me and asked if could interview me about being a maker. It turned out he was making a video series about makers asking all of us the same set of five questions. Every week, he’s posting the answers to those questions.
I recently bumped into Ricky Shetty (daddyblogger.ca) at an event and he was very interested in 3D printing technology. So we ended up doing an interview via Google Hangout. It’s always fun explaining the technology to people and showing off the output from my printers. Thanks for the opportunity, Ricky!

See if you can find a Bucky Ball to print – that would be pretty cool.
Nah…that’s too easy….I’m currently printing my own LHC.
Just out of curiousity, how much do the materials cost to make a model like that?
I didn’t pay attention to the stats when I printed it but is likely $0.25-$0.75 including power, plastic, etc.
A little while ago, the folks at MakerBot posted some estimated costs of 3D printing which is pretty interesting.
Thank you! That’s not bad at all actually
