Mystery Build Day: low poly cactus

Thanks to @polarisdotca for letting me know that Will over at Tested.com used my low poly mexican cactus as the ‘mystery build object’ today. It’s one of my favorite models.

Like Will mentions in the video, low poly models are pretty awesome. I’ve been ‘decimating’ a lot of models lately, especially objects and people I’ve been scanning including Douglas Coupland that I experimented with by painting the model using this hammertone spray paint that gives the object a cool, hammered metal look. It works really well with PLA:

My friend Dan even made the cactus into a mold for use with Oogoo:
