2012 World Cyber Games National Finals

2012 World Cyber Games

This weekend, Metrotown in Burnaby plays host to the Canadian World Cyber Games national finals. This is the first time the finals have come to the west coast. Winners this weekend, go on to represent Canada in the Grand Final in China at the end of November. I went down to check it out and quickly realized I was out of my (gaming) league.

Players can register to play either Fifa 2012 or Starcraft II and then go head to head against other players this weekend. The finals take place Sunday and based on the skills on display, it’s going to be crazy. Samsung Canada is sponsoring the event and are also giving away the Series 7 gaming laptop, like the ones used in the tournament, on Facebook.

Insanely fast Starcraft 2 gameplay @WCGca

Just check out the keyboard action for Starcraft 2:

I think I’ll stick to playing the motion controlled Angry Birds on the big screen tv…

It may be too late to get a spot in the tournament if you’re reading this on Sunday, but if you’re around Metrotown this weekend, you might want to check out the finals in the middle of Metrotown, near the elevators.
