Tech Tuesday: 3d printers for jewellers & Samsung’s Android camera

This week on News 1130 radio in Vancouver, I talked about these items:

  • Jewellers now have a 3d printer for custom castings: 3d printing has begun to affect another industry with the announcement a new 3d printer, the 3Z Studio from Solidscape, which is targeted at jewellers. The desktop printer creates complex wax patterns from digital designs that makes custom jewelry casting available in-house. This will make it much easier for jewellers to create unique designs for their customers in much less time with the same amount of precision. (source)
  • Samsung unveils Galaxy Camera: At a trade show in Berlin last week, Samsung announced the Galaxy Camera, it’s new 16 megapixel point and shoot camera with 21x zoom lens powered by the Android operating system (just like it’s smartphones). Soon you’ll be use Instagram with a proper camera and upload them via wifi. The camera also has GPS for geotagging your photos. Unlike the recently announced Nikon camera with a similar set of specs, the Galaxy Camera will also be available with 3G or 4G connectivity so you won’t need wifi to upload to Facebook or Instagram.
