Love my Kia Soul also, the only thing I dont like is the tires, already got a punchture and it was not repairable, after only having the vehicle 2 months and the warrantee is a joke, there is none.

It DOES power a small portable drive… Using a 250 GB LaCie portable drive with no issues… Certain it would work with a WD Passport, or any other 2.5″ based Drive… So long as the drive is small (Meaning it contains a notebook sized hdd as it’s internal drive, NOT a 3.5″ desktop hdd) Basically, if it’s a drive of any kind that does not require external power or even a Y-shaped usb cable (One for data, the other for power… or 2 into 1)… It should work!

Jean: you’ll need to put that code into your phone in order to pair it with the car via bluetooth. It’s the secret password that is shared between your phone and the car.

I’ve had my Soul for 1 month (ha ha that sounds funny out loud) anyway…I’ve paired my windows mobile phone and my Samsung Propel flawlessly, however, my the system will not pull my wife’s LG VU. You can still dial by number, but, no calling by name.
I love every feature of this car and I’ve begun to do after market installs on it. I found the side blinkers for $50 and the Stainless steel grill for about $40. I’m looking into a remote starter, but that’s more of a $350 (installed) upgrade.
I love the USB option and the fact that it reads my 16GB flash drive. I’m a tech dude so I’m driven by the tech specs. I’m trying to see if I can intergrate my Netbook with a slide out drawer in the huge glove box. A lot of factors to consider, but in the end I’m sure it’s doable.
Has anyone tried a portable HDD in the USB. Does the USB port have the power to power it?

Heidi: What kind of phone do you have? It’s not uncommon for different phones to not quite work properly with car bluetooth systems. The Kia system works flawlessly with my iPhone 3GS (and 3G & 2G models).

have had my soul about 6 weeks absolutely love it however am just now trying to set up the blutooth option and am gaving difficutlies. I get thru the process in the manual all the way up to the phonebook option. Keep in mnd the phone has been paired and connected. When I say “phonebook” it says “no connected phone” what? didn’t i just do that? from time to time I will find myself in the phonebook option not sure of how I even got there, it says downloading phonebook but seems to get stuck there I am getting frustrated. Please help!!!!

David: Only got 3 months Sirius with the car…and the bummer is I already have an XM account that’s prepaid until the end of the year (with the gear that was in my Matrix). Since the Canadian versions of the sat companies haven’t merged like the US ones, I can’t just extend my subscription to Sirius from the XM. Will have to see if I renew it though as it’s more expensive than XM and I got a good deal on my subscription from XM.

Probably won’t be adding any kind of DVD/video system….no kids means no real need for it and my laptop does a fine job for when I’m not driving ;)

I guess the inevitable addition would be a small flat-screen TV with DVD player for the rear seat, but then again, you don’t have passengers too often…

You could add Dial2Do as one of your contacts, and that will let you not only do the twitter updates, but send email, etc.

How’s the Sirius Satellite radio? Do they include a year’s worth of service or something like that?

Tyler: I just wish I could voice dictate my Twitter updates – the recognition is surprisingly good even for a mumbler like me…or at least that “Open Sunroof” would work

Derek: Sadly, you can only use one of the preset locations…so “Earl Grey Tea Mobile” will have to do ;)

Jeremy: I really like driving it…it’s peppier & seems to have better gas milage than my Matrix and is higher up so more like an SUV. The rear seats fold down nearly flat so you could probably get a lot of clubs in there. Seats up, the back compartment could probably hold 1-2 sets easily.

Great article John! I was really intrigued by this vehicle when I read a review in the Province a couple months ago. It seems to offer really great value for the urban geek.

My big question is: how is it to drive? And how many sets of golf clubs fit in the trunk?

Oh man, this reminds me of the light organ my dad built in the ’70s in our basement, which syncs up (entirely analogue!) with the jukebox he has there. (He used to install jukeboxes for a living.)

For the geekiest voice dial imaginable, you could set up a contact called “EarlGrey Tea” and an extension of “Hot.” I guess you’d still have to say “call,” though.

I like the look of it. The stereo is pretty cool, it is odd that you can’t just use your iPod->USB cable. I am sure LOTS of people will try nonetheless.

I think more cars should sync with your phone. Handsfree is the way to go! Now.. if they could just disable the phone’s keyboard so you can’t text n drive ;)
