Bridging Media

Bolex H16I’ll be heading down to the Centre For Digital Media on Saturday to attend the Bridging Media event organized by Megan Cole and Erica Hargreave. I think you can still register if you’re interested in attending this free event.

I’m looking forward to a number of the sessions as I’m contemplating a couple of side projects that harken back to my ‘roots’ as a film school grad and a film nerd. More and more the techy stuff I do around here and other stuff I am interested in seems to cross back over into the film world so it will be interesting to see where this all goes.

Creative outlets FTW.

  1. Hi Raul.

Probably not a full recap….I just don’t have time.

But one thing I did take away from this event was that Megan and Erica were able to pull together an impressive lineup of speakers and attendees rather quickly. To me it was huge success but it also pointed out that there is still a lot of ‘bridging’ to be done so I would expect that followup events will most likely even bigger and more attended once the word gets out.

Another thing I took away was something that I’ve been kind of stuck on myself that Boris brought up at the final session and it was very insightful and inspiring at the same time: just get out there and do the project you want to do.

I’ve come up with a ton of excuses for not even starting a project before and given some of the wonderful examples Boris provided, there is no reason to wait for a government handout or some other kind of angel investor to give you money to do something. Everyone has access to the tools nowadays to make something really cool without funding. Sure it might not have all the production values you would get with a ton of money behind you but at least you’re doing it and if it’s worth doing right (or more of), the money will follow. It reminds me of Dave O’s NV presentation….just do it for the sake of doing it instead of doing something built upon a crappy business model.
