Bought iPhone out of the box with 1.1.2 on thanksgiving day in USA. I tried to unlock it with SIM Free/Installer downloaded from Macworld website; after executing and running it on Macbook -iPhone stayed in standby mode.

Yesterday, connected it to iTunes and detected that it needs an upgrade and accepted to be restored and upgrded to 1.1.3, eventually an error it says "The iPhone could not be restoresd. An unknown error occured (1604)" occured and when I restarted it the iPhone is now in displaying the command line "BSD root:md0,major2,minor0" continously. What do I restore it back to 1.1.2 before attempting the unlock/jailbreak/activation. I am now in Africa.

I followed Sam's instructions and now my iPhone is showing a picture of the earth at the activation screen. I think I'm ready to jailbreak?
Can anyone guide me on how to do that so I can at least use the iPod function?
BTW I have the OOTB iphone with firmware 1.1.2.
THANKS!

1. We cannot choose 1.1.1 from the dialogue box and
2. The AppTapp installer will not open. It asks us to choose an application. Grrr.

Hi. We turned off Open Safe Files, & unpacked .zip file. When we press Alt Restore we get the Choose a File window. BUT when we choose Firmware, we get 2 files: all_flash or dfu each with their own stuff in the folders. Now what? ( Thanks, btw)
